Devotional: When Love Ends, God Stays

Breakups have a way of shaking everything. Plans fall apart. Memories linger. Silence replaces what used to feel like home. And in the middle of that, it’s easy to wonder, What now?
Scripture reminds us in Psalm 34:18 that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Not distant. Not waiting for you to “get over it.” Close.
God doesn’t rush your healing. He sits with you in it.
A breakup can feel like rejection, but it’s not the end of your worth—it’s often redirection. What didn’t work out doesn’t define you. It reveals what wasn’t meant to carry your future. Even when it hurts, God is protecting something in you that still needs to grow, still needs to be whole.
There’s a temptation to go back—to what’s familiar, even if it was unhealthy. But growth rarely feels comfortable. Choosing to let go, even when your heart wants to hold on, is strength.
In Isaiah 43:18-19, God says, “Forget the former things… See, I am doing a new thing!”
Not someday. Not eventually. Even now—something new is beginning, even if you can’t see it yet.
Today, you don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to take one step forward. Let yourself grieve, but don’t lose sight of this truth:
You are still chosen.
You are still loved.
And your story isn’t over.

Prayer:
God, my heart hurts. You see the pieces I’m trying to hold together. Help me release what I’ve lost and trust You with what’s ahead. Heal what’s broken in me, and remind me that I am never alone. Even in this pain, draw me closer to You. Amen.
